The 9 mile long
Flute Reed River empties into Lake Superior at Hovland, northeast of Grand Marais, MN, and is one of the best North Shore steelhead rivers. Its watershed is mostly second and third growth forest with a remote and rural character. As Cook County population and development are greatly increasing, careful management is needed to protect it.
