Upstream of ATV use on E. Amity Creek
Upstream of ATV use and damage on the East Branch of Amity Creek. This section of stream seems to be in good condition and exhibits features that we would expect to see in a normal, good condition stream of this type in this area. For example, the stream shows normal pool-riffle sequences, it has low amounts of filamentous (“nuisance”) algae, the rocks are quite clean and not buried in sand and fine sediments (a condition called embeddedness which reduces the amount of habitat available for stream insects and for fish that spawn in gravel). Large brook trout were observed in a deep pool in this area.
